    Polarity Storms

Post by willuwontu on Sat Jan 17, 2015 1:37 am

    Polarity Storms:

    What are they?
Polarity Storms are caused by passing ion storms, and occasionally wreak havoc upon the station life forms

    How it would work

    1. This would be a random event that could happen (not guaranteed)
    2. Would cause the marines to gain charges (- or +)
    3. Marines of opposite charges near each other would take damage till they moved apart
    4. Would last about 30 secs, but cause havoc giving the thing a chance to attack or escape from the group or utilize his charge to weaken his foes and cause them to move

I was actually thinking of something along the lines of random events.

    *Thumbs up*

I love the idea of random events but adding that particular one would end up raising the learning curve which is already fucking steep.

Like, its too easy for some noob to not understand whats happening and just follow some guy with the same charge around. Clear instructions on the screen kind of destroy the atmosphere and even then some people might not get it.

I still do love the idea of random events, particularly forcing the marines apart. Perhaps a different way?

An example of a more un-lethal random event that may be more simple while still being important.

Event: An asteroid is going to crash into the station. Power up the stations shield generators to protect it.

Objective: Repair 2 buildings that appear when the event starts to power it up. You have x amount of second to complete before the asteroid hits the station.

    If completed: Asteroid is destroyed.
If failed: All buildings (Comms, FRK, Lights) are put into Critical Mode (As if thing killed them) AND some doors get destroyed at random.

That way it isnt necessary to complete the task, but it still will potentially hurt you if you don't do it.
The reason for 2 buildings is so that the marines are forced to separate if they want to complete it but are in one big group. Marines like doors, and marines like EVAC and being able to see so it works great.

The more I think about it though, the more your idea makes complete sense and is cool...

I do like the idea of asteroids on ragnov. Maybe let them know that an comet is passing by the station and to look out for debris that may crash, causing rocks to fall all over the map dealing damage to anything they hit.

I thought it would be cool to have asteroids that could leave debris that blocks a door or something. It would definitely be cool to see terrain change a bit because of this. However, the issue with this is that rape rooms with only one exit could potentially break the game Razz Perhaps you could shoot the rock to destroy it?

I like your original idea with the charges now that I've thought about it more. The stuff I said about learning curve still applies, but we could ignore it. I like the idea primarily because it forces marines to split into groups of 2s. My only concern is people could follow others in order to suicide-kill them. Noobs might not even realize it is happening and just end up teaming up with other noobs in an accidental suicide pact. To use the charges thing, we would need to make it quite clear to avoid anyone with your charge.

I really think low % random events (that occur VERY rarely) that change terrain would be really badass. It would be really cool to even see stuff like permenantly damaged doors occur due to an event.

The learning curve would probably not change as much especially given i'd give these events like a 1% chance to occur and there would be clear warnings displayed. What we need to do

It'd be people of opposite charges conducting the electricity - and +, like how normal current works. People could follow, but in that case you're likely to get gunned down.

As for the asteroids leaving destuctible debris, it could be done.

    Sounds lame and unrealistic.

(Referring to all the suggestions above.)

LOL. I've got an idea! Why don't we just add a random event that makes Vic shit all over our WIP ideas? Oh wait, that would be redundant because we already have one Very Happy

    >.>

Lol, the leaning curve yah wouldn't be too much affected now that I'm not in the middle of a project. Although, I could almost guarantee some noobs would end up killing eachother accidentally. Perhaps it plays a sound when you are too close to someone who is hurting you. (Electric sound Very Happy)
